Smithsonian Student Travel mom gets a surprise makeover on The Today Show

In a New York minute, 50 students from Washington quickly learned that anything can happen on a Smithsonian Student Travel tour.

When Brooke Howell’s middle school group embarked on a customized tour of the East Coast in May, they fully expected to be amazed by the iconic sites and historic monuments they’d encounter along the way. However, one of the group’s most memorable moments was nowhere to be found on the tour itinerary.

While attending a taping of The Today Show, one of the students’ mothers, who accompanied the group as a chaperone, was spontaneously plucked from the crowd to receive a Mother’s Day makeover.

Check out this clip to see the full “Ambush Makeover,” which also features a number of the students on the tour.
