Smithsonian Folklife Festival: A celebration of international culture in the heart of Washington, D.C.


The Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage will host the 43rd annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival from June 28 through July 5 on the National Mall. Live performances, demonstrations and intimate re-creations of traditional settings allow visitors the opportunity to interact with master craftspeople and cultural representatives from across the globe.

Smithsonian Student Travel prepares for Boston Orientation 2009


Preparations are underway for Smithsonian Student Travel’s Boston Orientation for first-time group leaders. During the orientation weekend, which is scheduled for July 10-13, attendees will gain valuable insight and time-tested tips about recruiting, planning and traveling with students. Plus, the itinerary includes ample opportunities for sightseeing, visits to special attractions and free time for exploring the historic city of Boston!

The Smithsonian hits the big screen in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian


Give your students a pre-tour peek at some of the Smithsonian’s museums and most famous artifacts when Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian comes to theaters on May 22. As night watchman Larry Daley, played by Ben Stiller, investigates the burglary of several historical items, audiences will get a close-up view of Smithsonian museums, where some of the movie’s scenes were filmed.
