Celebrate 100 years of Boy Scouts at the National Scout Jamboree

Every four years, Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia transforms into a city of tents for 10 days. Boy Scouts from around the country and across the globe descend on the 76,000-acre facility to participate in the National Scout Jamboree. This July, 100 years after the Boy Scouts first began, the population of Jamboree City is expected to exceed 43,000.

This year, Smithsonian Student Travel makes it easy and affordable for Boy Scouts to attend the 10-day gathering and even enhance the Jamboree experience. Our Jamboree itineraries offer troops the opportunity to explore historical sites in Washington, D.C., and beyond.

“Our groups are touring cities up and down the East Coast pre- and post-Jamboree,” says Senior Tour Consultant Keith Webster, who serves as the point person for all Boy Scout Group Leaders. “They will have the opportunity to absorb tons of historical information to supplement their school and their scouting work.”

Plus, Smithsonian Student Travel lightens the workload for Boy Scout leaders who are planning to bring their troops to the Jamboree. “Leaders can either make one phone call to me or they can call the airlines, hotels, restaurants, bus companies and museums on their own,” Webster says. “We take care of them from start to finish with an all-inclusive tour, whereas some travel providers only provide the transportation.”

As with all Smithsonian Student Travel tours, the Jamboree tours are all-inclusive tour packages, including flights, buses, meals, hotel accommodations and a 24-hour tour director.
