Why is travel coverage important?

We strongly advise all participants to remain enrolled in our All-Inclusive Travel Coverage Plan. This plan provides comprehensive protection should something unexpected happen before or during your tour and supplements the Medical and Accident Insurance that is already included in your Program Fee.

Due to the popularity of our All-Inclusive Travel Coverage Plan, all travelers are enrolled automatically. This comprehensive plan is designed to meet the needs of Smithsonian Student Travel participants. You'll enjoy peace of mind knowing your investment is secure.

What's included?

Tour Cancellation and Interruption Coverage

Full Program Fee refund upon cancellation or a partial refund if you need to leave your tour early due to family, medical or personal emergency.*

Program Fee Protection

If you become unable to travel for any reason, inform Smithsonian Student Travel in writing of your decision to withdraw by the day before departure and receive a Future Travel Voucher.*

Baggage and Property Coverage

  • Coverage for baggage, cash, airline tickets and other valuables in cases of theft or delay*
  • Up to $300 emergency cash within 24 hours in case of on-tour theft*
     

Personal Delay Coverage

  • Reimbursement for necessary expenses incurred for travel delays over eight hours*
  • Coverage for costs incurred to rejoin tour because of a missed flight*
     

Medical and Accident Coverage

(included in your Program Fee)
  • Hospital and doctors' fees and medical transportation for illnesses or injury sustained on tour*
  • Travel and accomodation expenses for two family members to be with you in the event of a life-threatening illness*
  • Combined coverage up to $35,000 for above situations*
     

24-hour Emergency Assistance

  • Assistance and handling of claims during your tour*
